Project Background
Sunnywell Printing is very professional in coffee table books. We can customize high-end hardcover picture albums according to customers' requirements. An Israeli client found us. They are artists and wanted to customize a batch of their photography albums/ coffee table books. They required exquisite binding, accurate and rich printing, and had a deadline for shipping. Some books needed to be express-shipped to Israel urgently, and the rest needed to be shipped by sea to Spain. In the end, due to our efforts and working overtime, we finally completed the task on time with guaranteed quality and quantity, and received praise from the client.
Printing Quality Inspection and Binding Preparation
After printing is completed, we carry out printing quality inspection. Once we make sure there are no problems with the printing, we wait for the ink to dry completely and then start preparing for the binding stage, which includes folding, collating, and thread sewing. This art book is a bit complex: there are two types of paper for the inside pages. The main body of the book is matte coated paper, and there are three places inside with a 12-page insert. The insert pages also need to be thread-sewn together.
Thread-Sewn Binding for Mixed Signatures
As the different signatures are different size, we can’t use the normal auto Smyth sewn machine. We are using the manul sewn binding machine to binding the small booklet to the big book. See below:
Cloth Cover Finishing
During the books binding time, the cover is wrapped ready with the linen fabric cloth. And start the finishing on the cover, which is deboss/emboss, and white silk printing.
Final Binding: Joining the Text Block and Cover
Once cover finishing is finished, we move straight to the final binding step: joining the text block with the coffee table book cover to form a complete book. During this process, we ensure the head & tail bands and silk ribbon are securely glued for long-lasting performance. The adhesive applied on the spine must be controlled to an optimal thickness — neither too thick nor too thin. Excess glue will cause seepage, while insufficient glue fails to hold the text block firmly. We also align the book and binding perfectly at the center to avoid skew, guaranteeing high-quality, durable photo books.
Drying, Packaging, and Shipping
After quality inspection of the books, we let them dry for around 1–2 days before arranging packaging. To protect the books, we use double cartons with foam inserts, ensuring the books will not get damaged during shipment.
